One businessman who visited the inn in 1990 said, “I had been struggling financially for years. After spending a night at the Ryokufuzo Inn, known to be home to a Zashiki Warashi, my fortune completely changed. My company, which was near bankruptcy, suddenly thrived. I am convinced that the spirit brought me luck.”

Beyond folklore, these spirits have made their way into anime, manga, and horror films, often depicted as eerie yet benevolent figures. They remind us that not all ghosts are to be feared. Some simply seek companionship.

Inviting Zashiki Warashi.

So, if you want to invite a Zashiki Warashi into your home, here’s what you should do. The first thing is to keep your house clean and warm. They prefer a welcoming environment.

The second is to leave out small offerings. Traditional Japanese sweets or toys are believed to attract them. Third is to welcome their mischief. If small objects move on their own, take it as a sign of fortune and never show any fears that may upset them.
